SOUTH AFRICA

Whilst probably the most well explored countries of sub-Saharan Africa this by no way means you are not set for an overlanding adventure to remember. There are many exciting back gravel roads, national parks and wilderness areas as well as untouched coastlines and small quaint towns (or dorpies as we call them locally) to discover.

Some of our favourite areas include the Eastern Cape’s mountain passes; Groot Karoo; Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park; Richtersveld; Namaqua; Wild Coast and Kruger National Park

NAMIBIA

Rolling desert dunes, vast savannahs, challenging 4×4 tracks, ship-wrecked strewn coastlines and quaint towns, make Namibia your next overlanding destination. 

Thanks to its vast network of gravel roads and low population, almost any drive is guaranteed to make you feel like you are entering into the unknown. Namibia most surely be any outdoor enthusiasts dream destination?

BOTSWANA

Home to some of the most famed safaris in Africa including the Okavango Delta, Chobe and Moremi, learn why Botswana is the ultimate safari destination for overlanders. 

Botswana is one of the last frontiers where you can still camp unfenced in amongst Africa’s famed Big 5. Coupled with this is the fact that you can experience this surrounded by desert, salt pans, the deep African bush as well as along some of the most famous rivers means you are as close to safari heaven as you can get!

ZAMBIA

With waterfalls and waterways such as the Victoria Falls and Zambezi river, wild safari locations and untouched wilderness, become a modern day explorer in Zambia.

Whilst some of Zambia’s tourist destinations may be well known, there are relatively untouched corners still to be discovered by. Add to your bucketlist experiences and destinations such as the shoebill storks at Bangweulu, the source of the Zambezi River close to Mwinilunga, the largest mammal migration in the world at Kasanka and some of the most pristine woodlands in West Lunga National Park. Zambia is sure to surprise even the most well travelled of adventurers!

ZIMBABWE

Mana Pools, Kariba, Victoria Falls, Hwange, Gonarezhou, Matobo, the Great Zimbabwe Ruins. Learn why these destinations should be on every overlanders bucketlist.

By chance or design, circumnavigating Zimbabwe is often the best way to tackle this under-appreciated overlanding destination meaning that it makes for a perfect all one one adventure or ideal to tack on with some of its neighbours. Perhaps best of all is that it also lacks the tourist numbers of some of its more famous safari neighbours!

MALAWI

Discover not only why Malawi is considered the warm heart of Africa but is also the perfect combination of bush, beach and mountain for every overlander!

Whilst not even a tenth of the size of South Africa, Malawi offers up numerous national parks and wilderness reserves, many controlled or managed by the likes of Peace Parks and Africa Parks, meaning that what you may lack in sheer volume of wildlife you make up for with unique and varying landscapes all held together by the genuine warmth and hospitality of the local Malawian people!

KENYA

With  destinations such as the Masai Mara, Amboseli, Mount Kenya and Tsavo, Kenya is a perfect adventure travellers playground, go there with us! 

Most early explorers or authors, when recounting their stories of Africa, are talking specifically to Kenya, and there is a very good reason for this. With iconic landmarks such as the Mara River, the Great Rift Valley and Mount Kenya playing as backdrop to one of Africa’s most culturally rich and iconic tribes, the Maasai! Whilst Kenya might not be the best value for money destination for overlanders it is one that simply has to be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

TANZANIA

Home to Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, and famed wilderness migration, Tanzania offers this and so much more, discover its offerings with us! 

With such iconic destinations it is with little surprise that when people conjure up images of true African wilderness most encompass the landscapes typical in Tanzania. The real treat lies in learning of the many unexplored and less visited national parks and wilderness reserves that Tanzania plays host to. Better still, after all the dusty days of travelling a white sandy beach is not far away either along the Indian Ocean coastline or along the lakeshores of Lake Malawi, Tanganyika and Victoria!

UGANDA

Uganda offers adventurers primate excursions, countless trekking options and big 5 safaris. discover why it’s one of Africa’s best overlanding destinations! 

Uganda as a destination has always seemed to live in the shadows of Rwanda in the South when drawing crowds for primate excursions as well for safaris when compared to its neighbours to the East (Kenya and Tanzania). Spend a few days exploring this rich tapestry of colour, people, mountains, forests and savannas and you will quickly realise why many outdoor enthusiasts leave their heart in Uganda!

RWANDA

Offering more than just a chance to get up close to their thriving gorilla population, Rwanda is a melting pot of adventures just waiting to be explored.

MOZAMBIQUE

With miles of sun-kissed coastline, untamed wildlife destinations, seafood and welcoming smiles, Mozambique offers an unrivalled overlanding experience. 

Mozambique is one of those wonderful countries where the more you scratch beneath the surface of the main tourist destinations the more you realise what incredible overlanding places there are to be discovered. It also makes a perfect country to add as part of a larger circuit with it neighbouring South Africa and eSwatini in the South, tracking along Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi all the way along its Eastern flank.

LESOTHO & ESWATINI

Home to kings, skiing and the highest pass in southern Africa, discover why Lesotho and eSwatini are so much more than just a passport stamp or transit route!

A little time spent in each of these countries soon makes you realise that these countries should not be whistle-stop destinations but countries to explore in detail in their own rights. In the case of Lesotho, experiencing this country through the seasons always delivers something new, for Eswatini, exploring from West to East and North to South brings you to appreciate the changing landscapes surrounding you in this small kingdom.

MADAGASCAR

From deserts to deserted beaches and everything in between, discover why this passionate island nation is fast becoming one of the top destinations for adventure seekers and wilderness lovers. 

Whilst images of fleet-footed and fury lemurs, lanes of baobab trees and dramatic coastlines might be what most people picture when thinking of Madagascar, ask any one who has had the opportunity to explore the visual riches of this island nation and you will soon realise that the reward really is in the journey, like any good overlanding story!
